Flooring products are an important part of home building, and choosing the best one is a challenging element for architects and designers. Property owners may have difficult time with selection, particularly because laminate and vinyl tiles both have elegance, durability, and low-maintenance qualities. Knowing the difference between laminate and vinyl can help reflect your personal design tastes.
Benefits
Both types of flooring are less expensive than real wood, porcelain tiles, or stones. Both can simulate wood and tile, providing the look of premium floor coverings without the premium price. Real wood and tile are also difficult to maintain and require special cleaning.
Laminate and vinyl tiles are rarely porous and don’t need expensive replacement for chips or damaged grout. They are easy and cost less to install. If these tiles do need replacing, they are relatively easy to repair. They also come with protective layers to make them resistant to scratches and scrapes.
Differences
Laminate is made from high-density fibreboard and isn’t attached to the floor. Instead, the tiles are installed with interlocking panels with a “floating” system. Tiles also may feel warmer to the touch, because they’re made with pliable vinyl sheeting.
Vinyl tiles have more flexibility. They are affixed to the floor with special adhesives, and feel colder to a bare foot — much like wooden floors.
Choosing the Right One
Which tile you choose depends on considerations of practicality and aesthetics. Laminate tiles are preferable for uneven floors, and give the illusion of a more even surface. Vinyl tiles are softer and come in more colours.
They both perform well in moist areas like kitchen or bathrooms, but spills should be cleaned quickly.. If being “eco-friendly” is your priority, laminated tiles are probably the better choice, as it is made of renewable materials.
